A total of 839 vacancies are available across 56 posts under various Tamil Nadu government departments, boards, and corporations. Key posts and their vacancy counts are listed below; the full post-wise list with post codes is available in the official notification. The number of vacancies and their distribution are tentative and liable to modification before Physical Certificate Verification/Counselling begins. TNPSC also reserves the right to include additional posts with similar eligibility conditions. Some vacancy figures include backlog vacancies or shortfall vacancies for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, as marked in the official notification.

Candidates must satisfy the general eligibility conditions prescribed by TNPSC, including citizenship requirements applicable to Tamil Nadu government recruitments. Admission to the examination is purely provisional and subject to verification of eligibility at every stage. Each of the 56 posts has a distinct educational qualification requirement, generally a Diploma, ITI/National Trade Certificate, or a Degree in the relevant engineering or technical subject. Candidates must possess the prescribed qualification on the date of notification, and any practical experience required must have been acquired after obtaining the prescribed educational qualification. Age is reckoned as on 01.07.2026 for most posts. The minimum age is 18 years for all posts except Motor Vehicle Inspector Grade-II and Junior Training Officer posts. For Motor Vehicle Inspector, Grade-II, the minimum age is 21 years as on 01.07.2026. For Junior Training Officer posts (Post Codes 3617 to 3648 and 3773 to 3783), the minimum age is 21 years as on 01.08.2026. Maximum age varies by post: for example, 34 years for Motor Vehicle Inspector Grade-II, 32 years for Assistant Manager/Radio Supervisor/Mines Foreman, 50 years for Technical Assistant (Post Code 3380), and no maximum age limit for most Junior Training Officer and Junior Draughting Officer posts (subject to the 60-year cap). Most posts are placed under the 7th Pay Commission Pay Matrix Level rather than a fixed rupee figure. Some sample pay levels are given below; exact in-hand salary figures are Not Announced Yet in the source notification.

The examination fee is Rs. 100 for one subject paper, payable at the time of submitting the online application. For every additional subject paper opted, an additional Rs. 100 must be paid per subject paper. Fee once paid for a subject paper will not be refunded if the candidate later withdraws that subject paper. Candidates belonging to SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DC, BC(OBCM), BCM, Persons with Benchmark Disability, Ex-Servicemen, and Destitute Widow categories can avail fee exemption/concession as per the free-chance rules detailed in the notification (Annexure II). The Combined Technical Services Examination (Diploma/ITI) is conducted as a single-stage written examination, followed by onscreen certificate verification, physical certificate verification, and counselling (wherever applicable).
